IMTA Countdown - Week 4

IMTA Tip of the Week

IMTA Competitions give you the opportunity to be seen by Agents, Scouts and Managers from major markets. The Agent Introduction and Overview held on Thursday night is an opportunity for the Agents, Managers, and Casting Directors to see all the Models and Actors one more time. For Overview, you will walk the T with other Contestants in groups and be categorized by age, gender, and whether you are primarily a Model or Actor. Contestants wear a classic black and/or white wardrobe ...so the focus is on you, not your clothing. Agents have told us that they would like to see models with hair pulled back and minimal makeup. They want to see your face, bone structure and complexion. This also means that the agents don't want to be distracted by elaborate styling. A plain white fitted t-shirt paired with black jeans or a black skirt is perfect. Talent, casual clothes are best for you, too. We suggest wearing something that makes you feel confident.

Remember to smile and show your personality!

Model Tip of the Week

"It's all in the Jeans"
The Jeans Competition is a terrific opportunity for you to show your style on the runway. Be sure to wear your favorite pair of blue denim jeans and a fitted T-shirt or tank top. Agents want to see you in jeans - avoid denim skirts or overalls, as it will affect your score. There are so many to choose from such as Gap, Guess, Old Navy, Seven, Express, True Religion, and many more. This is one competition where you will definitely want to flash a mega-watt smile!

Girls - keep your hair and makeup fresh, young and natural.

Check out:  Lucky Magazine's Denim Guide for advice on how to find jeans that flatter every body type.

Talent Tip of the Week

''Screen Test' is a great chance for you to show agents, managers and casting directors your headshot, how you look on-camera and in person! Here's how it works: You'll check in with an IMTA staff member and receive a list of lines. Select the line you can deliver best. Your contestant number will be announced, your headshot will be shown on the screens and then you're on!

This is the only talent competition that presents you to the judges in person, on screen and in combination with your headshot  simultaneously.  The judges want to see your acting potential so deliver your line as you would in a scene. Do not be over the top.

Tips - Show your personality. There is no need to mimic the original delivery of the line. A fresh approach can be just as impressive. Be yourself and let your winning personality shine!

Makeup Competition / Model Tip of the Week

How quickly and skillfully can you do your makeup? In the Makeup Competition, you are given 15 minutes to apply your makeup. This Competition shows the judges whether you would be able to apply your own makeup if you were on a shoot and the makeup artist didn't show.

For the Makeup Competition, be sure to be bring any makeup supplies and brushes you will need along with a lighted mirror, (we'll have outlets for you to plug them in). Come with a clean face, hair pulled back and a terrific smile! Emphasize your best feature (eyes, lips, etc.) and make the rest of your face a flawless canvas.

To find the colors that work best for you, check out Cover Girl's Color Match.

And don't forget to follow the seasons! For current makeup styles, visitSephora.

Sitcom Competition

The Sitcom Competition is a live competition that demonstrates your acting abilities in front of agents and managers. In the Sitcom Competition, you will act opposite a professional actor or actress. Be sure you understand your scene. Know which lines are funny, and deliver those with a punch. Make your delivery natural and don't over-rehearse. REACT to the other actor's lines. Your expressions in response are just as important as when you are delivering your own lines.

IMTA Countdown - Week 3!

Model Tip of the Week

Get your hair in gorgeous condition! Find the products that work best on your hair and remember salon products may cost about the same as drugstore products because you can use so much less. Be sure to ask your Director before you make any significant changes to your hair such as a shorter style, or highlights. Your Director will want you to look like your photos and comp card so dramatic changes are not a good idea. The Agents at the IMTA Convention will want you to have healthy, beautiful, shiny hair.

For some hair style tips from Marie Claire, click here.

Runway/Fashion Print

Let's focus on Runway/Fashion Print. The way you walk is one of the most important factors in presenting yourself in the Runway Competition. Be sure to select shoes that you can walk in. It's good to show some personality -- and the judges love a great smile! As you practice and refine your walk, focus on moving smoothly and confidently. Wardrobe selection should not deter from your walk - choose an outfit you feel great in. Guys, make sure you walk naturally too. You may want to use creative imagery and envision yourself on the Runway at IMTA, walking beautifully with elegance and grace. Remember, your three fashion print shots will be projected onto screens and monitors just before you walk the T. Agents love seeing how you look in print as well as your potential on the runway.

To see some great examples of runway walks from the Spring 2012 Collections, click here and select your favorite designer's show.

Talent Tip of the Week

Have you ever noticed how your first impression lasts the longest? It's that way for the agents, managers and casting directors at IMTA too! So when you take the stage or the mic for your performance at IMTA, be in character and in the moment. In fact, as soon as you walk in the room, you may have attracted an agent's attention. Whether you are on stage, in the elevators or in a meeting room, be professional, friendly and upbeat. You never know when you'll be noticed!

Having a great stage presence has a lot to do with how prepared you are. Rehearse enough so that you feel comfortable with your lines but don't over rehearse. Smile; you're on!

Break a leg!

Competition Tip of the Week

Get ready for your TV Commercial Competitions. When performing your Commercial, remember that you are selling a product. Make your product sound like it's the best ever! Make your delivery fresh and stick to the script. Judges are looking for personality, projection and believability.

You can practice your commercial in front of a mirror. On your competition day, make sure you are not wearing distracting jewelry or hair clips. The judges will want to see your eyes so if you have long bangs, make sure they are off of your face. Wear a solid color shirt (stay away from white). Prints and striped materials usually don't show up as well on-camera.

The best part of an IMTA Commercial Competition? It may be about a product but you are really promoting yourself as a talent! IMTA alum Eva Longoria is pictured above performing her IMTA TV Commercial Competition.

IMTA Countdown - Week One!

We are excited for you to join us in counting down for the Event of a Lifetime together!

Model Tip of the Week
Makeup artists are always emphasizing the importance of "a perfect canvas" for makeup. Do you have a good skin care routine? Find out what products work best for you and use them regularly. The modeling agents at IMTA will want your skin to look beautiful and for you to wear very little makeup.

For great skin care advice, click here or here.

Talent Tip of the Week
Headshots are a black and white or full color shot of your face or ¾ length vertical shot that should look like you. Casting Directors use headshots to choose talent who have the potential to work in their projects. For that reason, it is very important that your headshots look exactly like you -- not glamorized, airbrushed, etc. Therefore, your headshots for the IMTA Theatrical Headshots Competition should be natural and styling should be simple.

IMTA Press Release- Greater Glory Eva Longoria!

IMTA ALUM EVA LONGORIA LOOKS FOR GREATER GLORY
IMTA Press Release
May 31, 2012, 2012
For Greater Glory opens nationwide in the U.S. on Friday, June 1

For centuries, wars all around the world have been fought because of religious persecution. In Mexico in the 1920s, one such war took place after the Catholic Church was outlawed, Catholic churches, schools, seminaries and convents were shut down, and Catholics faced unrelenting oppression. Rebels against the government crackdown—known as Cristeros—at first resisted peacefully, but were eventually forced to take up arms in what became a full-blown revolutionary uprising against the government. La Cristiada, as the Cristero War was known in Mexico, lasted for three years and claimed nearly 90,000 lives until it was ended by diplomatic means.
With the true events of La Cristiada as the background, the story of one particular
group of the Cristeros who risk everything for their faith comes to life in the action epic For Greater Glory. The film stars Andy Garcia as General Gorostieta, a retired military man who becomes the resistance’s leader facing impossible odds against a ruthless government, and LA98 IMTA alum Eva Longoria as his devoted wife, Tulita. “The government tried to outlaw religion, priests were hung,” said Longoria. “It was a terrible time in Mexican history.” Peter O’Toole, Oscar Isaac, Ruben Blades, Bruce
Greenwood, Nestor Carbonell and Bruce McGill also star in the film, which premiered in Mexico on April 20 to excellent reviews.
With “Desperate Housewives” now ended, Longoria is concentrating on several
upcoming feature film projects. Following the opening of For Greater Gloryanother film scheduled for release in August of this year is The Baytown Disco, an action crime comedy in which she stars opposite Billy Bob Thornton as a woman trying to save her son from his abusive father. In the film, she recruits three redneck brothers to help her, but they all become targets on the run from an odd cast of characters Thornton has hired to do his dirty work, one of which is fellow IMTA alum Agnes Bruckner (LA95) in the role of Mona.
Longoria teams up with Andy Garcia again in The Truth, an action thriller about a former CIA operative-turned-politician talk show host who is hired by a corporate whistleblower to expose her company’s cover up of massacre in a South American village. The film, which was filmed in Ontario, Canada and the Dominican Republic, is tentatively scheduled for a 2012 release but has no specific date set.
Also in the works is Long Time Gone, a drama about a broken family that must cope when a man leaves his wife for another woman. Longoria stars alongside Anthony LaPaglia, Virginia Madsen, Amanda Crew, Zach Guilford and fellow IMTA alum Graham Rogers (NY09). The film is in post- production with no release date scheduled.

IMTA alum Katie Holmes on the cover Hungarian Marie Claire!

IMTA Alum Katie Holmes is on the cover of Marie Claire!  It's the Hungarian February 2012 edition!  Katie competed at IMTA twice, in 1993 and 1995. She returned a couple of years later to present awards at IMTA and debuted the first fifteen minutes of the pilot episode of Dawson's Creek. The entire ballroom was riveted by this ground-breaking stylish teen drama and Katie received thunderous applause! On that special night, she gave us a very nice interview saying:

"Let's just say a girl from Toledo, Ohio wouldn't end up cast
in a Hollywood movie if it weren't for IMTA!"

You can read a darling letter from Katie Holmes from the IMTA Archives  right here exclusively on THAT IMTA BLOG!

IMTA Spotlights...
Feature Film and Television Star
Katie Holmes...

Katie Holmes attended the IMTA New York Convention in July '95. She signed with Onorato/Guillod Entertainment and was cast in the Ang Lee feature film, The Ice Storm with Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver and IMTA discovery Elijah Woods, which is slated for a summer release. Katie has recently been cast in the lead role in a new television series "Dawson's Creek" which will air this fall. We have just received the following letter from her and felt it was so incredible that we wanted to share it:

"For years I have spent some time sitting in front of the television from 7:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. listening intently to John Tesh and Mary Hart inform me about which star was filming what new movie, who was dating who, and who was the rising new actor or actress. Hollywood and its numerous success stories seemed extremely far away and definitely from a world that I would never come into contact with.

On July 23, 1995 my life changed. This particular Sunday evening, I found myself in the New York Hilton for the International Modeling and Talent Association Convention. I was sitting in one of the ballrooms reciting a monologue in front of about 50 other contestants, as well as Al Onorato, David Guillod and Bobby Moresco, the men who were conducting this seminar on "Prepare to Compete. After I had finished, Al and Bobby offered some direction and had me alter it a little. I used my nervous anxiety to help me become more intense and, following my second performance, I felt elated. It was clear to me that something very special occurred in that ballroom that evening.

About six months later, I found myself in the Los Angeles office of Al Onorato, rehearsing an audition piece for the Ang Lee film The Ice Storm. David, Al and Bobby had become my business managers following that memorable convention and encouraged me to audition in Los Angeles during the 6-week pilot season. Instead of viewing Hollywood on my T.V., I was there. Being in that untouchable world, experiencing the life of a beginning actress, was surreal. Suddenly this strange path of life seemed so normal. I love it.

My experience grew even more unbelievable. On May 21, 1996 I found myself in a trailer on Park Avenue in New York City, getting my hair and make-up done in order to transform myself into a teenager from 1973. I was anxiously waiting to begin filming The Ice Storm. Suddenly, I was part of Hollywood. I was then inside the walls of the business instead of remaining a curious outsider gazing in, struggling to discover what exactly takes place on the inside. I found myself chatting with actors whom I had read about for several years. After receiving directions by the highly acclaimed Hollywood director, Ang Lee, and talking to Kevin Kline for a substantial amount of time, it was time to begin becoming a professional actress.

My rather eventful and definitely memorable year provided me with such valuable life-long lessons that will forever remain a part of me. Fortunately, I was able to work with extremely focused, conscientious people who are completely unconcerned with the Hollywood myth. They work hard at their jobs and then retreat home to their families. I discovered that the Hollywood portrayed on Entertainment Tonight of exciting parties, premieres, galas, etc. is a distortion. The Hollywood I came into contact with is one of extremely talented people who spend their time participating in acting workshops, auditions, films, etc. in order to perfect their craft. The highly respected actors and directors are solely concerned with their work and concentrate on ways to improve. Although "Tinsletown" continues to be a mystery to all and several have benefited from the fortunate fate that seems to occur only in Hollywood, it remains to be true that even in Hollywood, those who diligently work hard are the people who achieve true and long-lasting success."
